Pachamama
Original Watercolour Painting by Roberta Orpwood

Pachamama' (translating to “World Mother” or “Mother Earth”) was honoured by the indigenous people of the Andes Mountains, predominately by the Inca in Peru and parts of Bolivia, Chile, Colombia and Ecuador. She was the Inca’s generous fertility Goddess who presided over planting and harvesting, providing the earth’s inhabitants with everything needed to sustain life.

Today, Pachamama is still honoured with rituals, festivals and feasts all throughout the year across the Andes. Different offerings are given to Pachamama including taking sips from a traditional drink made of corn, and the burning of incense (i.e. coca leaves and cigars) to honour her and show gratitude.

This painting has been dedicated to this Goddess with the intention of bringing awareness to and honouring Mother Earth. It has been created as a reminder that many of the simple pleasures and comforts that we so often take for granted all stem from one powerful source - Mother Earth.
Let's not take this for granted a take some time to give back to our most beautiful planet.
